Mr Simon Horgan MBBS FRCS FRCOphth
Consultant Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology
Mr Horgan is our Consultant Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology. Mr Horgan completed his training at Moorefields Eye Hospital and works as a consultant ophthalmologist at St George&rsquos Hospital in London, where he specialises in retinal disorders. He has vast experience in setting up community ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery and primary care clinics run in general practice. Mr Horgan’s clinical interests are in age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Mr Nick Jacobs MB ChB FRCOphth
Mr Jacobs is our Specialist Consultant Clinical Lead for Glaucoma. He is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon having specialised in high volume cataract surgery. In addition to cataracts he majors in the management of glaucoma. His experience in this area is invaluable in ensuring our compliance to the 2009 NICE glaucoma guidelines. Mr Jacobs will use his extensive experience and expertise of glaucoma management to further improve the service we offer to patients and commissioners as well as to develop new approaches to glaucoma management such as the virtual glaucoma clinic.
Mr Jamba Tenzing FRCS, MRCOphth, MSC in Ophthalmology, Fellowship Medical Retina
Jamba is a highly experienced ophthalmologist. His main subspecialty interests are Glaucoma, and medical diseases of the vitreous and retina. He has extensive experience in managing diabetic retinopathy. He joined The Practice after completing his Fellowship in Medical Retina from the University of Toronto and branched into Primary Care Ophthalmology. He has several years of experience in Primary Care Ophthalmology with The Practice. He has a passion for Primary Care Ophthalmology and has never looked back.
Ms Nosheen Mushtaq Orthoptics BSc Optometry BSc
West Berkshire & Ealing
Nosheen has worked as a senior orthoptist at St Helier and Epsom NHS Trust and has also worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Nosheen’s qualifications in both Optometry and Orthoptics add valuable experience to our team.
Miss Alison Matthews
Alison is a senior optometrist with over 20 years of experience. She was one of the first optometrists in the country to gain the Post Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmology in 2004.
Alison has worked with Dr Jenkins for nearly 10 years and was part of the original pilot scheme then looking at Primary Care Ophthalmology in the community.
Her area of special interest is glaucoma care and management. She also is a member of staff at the local hospital glaucoma clinic, and is currently undertaking higher qualifications in Independent Prescribing.
Mr Andleeb Zafar, MBBS FCPS FRCS MRCS
Currently working as associate specialist at King Edward VII Hospital Windsor he completed his medical training in Pakistan. Additionally, he completed his ophthalmic specialist training in Pakistan and the United Kingdom along with an advanced cataract surgery fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He has a special interest in cataract surgery and glaucoma.
Mr Vikas Kapoor
Mr Kapoor has worked with ‘The Practice Group’ as ophthalmologist since August 2012, providing community eye care in the Wakefield region. He was Locum Consultant in Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, Wakefield, prior to joining “The Practice Group”. He completed MRCOphth by Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London in 2007. He has completed training experience in various NHS hospitals and also as clinical fellow in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2011.
Dr Geeta Lal MBBS, DO, MS, FRCS Glasgow
Dr. Lal studied medicine in India with post graduation in ophthalmolgy and further trained in Ireland in Royal Victoia Eye and Ear hospital. She is an accredited ophthalmolgist on the GMC specialist register. Dr Lal is a highly experienced Ophthalmologist and has worked in different sub specialities while training in Ireland. She has a special interest in Cornea and Refractive surgery and wishes to pursue this further by doing a fellowship. Dr Lal has also played a key role in teaching medical students of Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland as a senior lecturer in ophthalmolgy. She is presently working with The Practice Group as a Community Ophthalmologist.
Ernest Onyema MBBS, MScBristol, FRCSEd
Ernest obtained his FRCS in 1995 and currently works as a Locum Consultant in secondary care as well as a primary care ophthalmologist with us. He has interest in Glaucoma Primary Care development and electronic integration with secondary care. Other areas of interest include Cataract surgery and Diabetic Retinal Disease. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Kent and did a Clinical Glaucoma Service Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. He also spent time at Herts and Essex Hospital Bishop Stortford and Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow Essex.
